Writing Portfolio

Hello! Below are essays I’d like to share. I’ll include a caption and subsequent link that will direct you to the paper. Thanks, and appreciate you checking out my research papers!

The Russo-Ukrainian War and It's Causes

This was a paper I wrote in high school, Junior year. I was inspired to write my AP Lang paper on the war as its causes are heavily tied to my Eastern European roots. Note that some details regarding death counts in the concluding paragraph are outdated. However, all sources prior to that continue to stay relevant. As the war continues, it’s important to understand the historical context surrounding the war, as well as the political players that have led up to this tragedy. I hope this essay, old as it is, is still revealing about the deeper implications involving NATO and U.S. expansion into Europe.

The Fight Over AP African American Studies

Written in high school, senior year, and published in the school newspaper in March 2023. Following Ron Desantis’s decision to ban AP African American Studies in Florida, I decided to write an article about the issue and provide student-teacher insight and opinions regarding CollegeBoard’s response.I wanted to explore the political battle surrounding its implementation, and bring my peers into the conversation – not only about Florida’s objections but also about CollegeBoard’s shortcomings in supporting APAAS and its curriculum in its entirety, as well as the likely reasons why.

The Technological Unraveling of Western Elections

I wrote this paper in an Argument and Research class I took at UCI, Freshman year. The class theme was centered around technology and culture. As it was near a major election year, I decided to discuss the technological movement in elections – that is, in both the voting booth and media.I wanted to examine how advancements in media and data systems have increasingly been weaponized to shape political opinion, ignite polarization, and sway vote behavior – trends which threaten to destabilize democracies worldwide. In doing so, we can better understand our growing reliance on technology as a tool in the democratic process, while also acknowledging the risks that come with its misuse.

Methods to Tackle Media Authority in Elections

Also an Argument and Research article. In this paper, we had to provide possible solutions to the issues that were addressed in our prior essay – in my case, technology in elections. Here, I break down key programs the UN has attempted to implement worldwide to combat media bias and concerns, as well as their limitations and challenges. Moreover, I explore the rise in targeted ads, biased reporting, and data misuse – tools which are increasingly used to sway voter behavior and undermine election integrity. In all, the hope was to raise awareness and propose accountability measures to preserve fairness in the democratic process.

The Reemergence of an Education Crisis in America

This was a sociology paper I wrote in my Sophomore year at UCI, around March 2025. The Trump Administration at the time was quite aggressive in its endeavors to dismantle the Department of Education, so I was encouraged to address the growing crisis. I also discuss the country’s history with education and its troubling decline in support.Additionally, I analyze data on declining literacy and academic achievement, explore the debates around public and private schooling, and emphasize how these changes impact economic and social outcomes.
